Bringing the Ocean to Society
2 Nov 2017
2nd JPI OCEANS Conference took place in Lisbon
One of the key outcomes was the recognition of the need to develop a European observatory on marine sciences.

The first results of the actions and projects initiated under the framework of JPI Oceans were presented on 26 October 2017. The event provided an excellent opportunity for stakeholders from research and industry to network and discuss with policy makers from across Europe. Partners involved in the JPI Oceans joint actions discussed the outcomes, opportunities and future outlooks of their activities. The conference also highlighted the international cooperation of JPI Oceans beyond Europe and results of CSA Oceans 2, the Horizon 2020 Support Action aimed to support the JPI.

EurOcean was represented by our Office Coordinator, Cristina Costa. Several EurOcean Members - IFREMER, CNR and FRCT – also had representatives attending the event, which was also organised by our Members FCT and VLIZ.

Our former President, MEP Ricardo Serrão Santos was one of the key note speakers and dedicated a tribute to EurOcean’s founder and first President, Prof. Mário Ruivo. Our former Executive-Director, Telmo Carvalho, also read a message from the Portuguese Minister of the Sea.

Some of the European projects in which EurOcean is involved were also represented in the conference, such as the case of MARINA and COLUMBUS. The event had 275 registrations.
