Brand new Ocean Literacy Portal launched!
You can now start using and start contributing to the new tool developed by UNESCO-IOC to show how we and our ocean affect each other.

UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), a EurOcean Cooperating Member, has just launched a brand new Ocean Literacy Portal.

The Portal has been developed to provide a one stop shop for Ocean Literacy worldwide, by sharing existing global ocean knowledge. The resources will be accessible to citizens worldwide, from different backgrounds and of all ages, from students to educators, from researchers to policy makers.

And you can contribute! IOC is looking for your collaboration, by inviting you to add your own resources to the platform (videos, teaching materials, upcoming events, projects, reports…). In doing so, you will be part of a worldwide sharing platform and contribute to the development of Ocean Literacy.

Please get in contact with IOC should you be interested in contributing to further information and communication regarding the understanding of our ocean.

As you might know, the United Nations has proclaimed a Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) to gather ocean stakeholders worldwide behind a common framework that will ensure ocean science can fully support countries in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 14 on the ocean. As mandated by the UN General Assembly, IOC will coordinate the Decade’s preparatory process. To increase scientific and technical capacity and Ocean literacy is one of the Decade’s strategic objectives. IOC is also looking forward to hear your views on the role of ocean literacy in the context of the Decade. Should you be interested, please respond to this survey.
