Bringing the Ocean to Society
8 Jun 2017
NAUSICAA voyage around the World Ocean
On World Oceans Day, NAUSICAA wants to raise public awareness of the benefits that the Ocean brings for our health.

The General Assembly of the United Nations has declared 2017 the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. Under the aegis of the Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts and Islands, the founders of the World Ocean Network, including Jean-Michel Cousteau and Philippe Vallette, approached delegations from different countries and United Nations organisations in order to make World Oceans Day an official event on 8 June. The United Nations gave the event their official recognition in 2009. Hundreds of participants and partners of the Network, including NAUSICAA, the National Sea Centre in Boulogne-sur-Mer, celebrate World Oceans Day every year.

During 2017, NAUSICAA - an EurOcean Member - wants to closely examine a topic related to sustainable development and from Thursday 8 June to Friday 7 July 2017, it will be focusing on the theme of the “Voyage around the World Ocean”.

World Oceans Day raises the awareness of many people about the marine environment. Today, thousands of organisations in 70 countries across five continents are involved in this festival. The World Ocean Network, of which NAUSICAA is a founding member, is coordinating this day around the world.

Check NAUSICAA's website for all the details on a number of activities including an exhibition, video competition, literature awards, games and a giant selfie…
