Maria Chiara Carrozza is the first woman to hold this prestigious position

Maria Chiara Carrozza, a renowned engineer and former Minister of Education, Universities and Research , has become the 23rd president of the National Research Council (CNR), the italian main research body, with 88 institutes in all disciplines across the country, 8500 researchers, and a € 900 million budget.

Maria Chiara Carrozza is the first woman to hold this prestigious position.

"Being the first woman leading the country's largest and most important research centre is an unprecedented challenge and responsibility. But it also represents a change of approach and perspective. I am confident of the help and cooperation of all the researchers at the organisation, their undoubtedly valuable skills and their enthusiasm. " – said Dottoressa Carrozza.

Maria Chiara Carrozza, age 56, is a full professor of Industrial Bioengineering. She directs and conducts research in the fields of biorobotics, biomechatronics, neuro-engineering, and rehabilitation of which she is one of the main exponents.
