A journey in the European maritime cultural heritage
The PERICLES project developed an animation that looks into the coastal and maritime cultural heritage of the Aveiro region, Portugal

Are you familiar with the maritime and coastal heritage of your region?

The EU funded PERICLES project, which promotes sustainable, participatory governance of cultural heritage in European coastal and maritime regions, developed an animation that looks into the coastal and maritime cultural heritage of the Aveiro region, Portugal, through a journey to the traditions and traditional activities that have shaped, and still do, the identity of the region. EurOcean's member University of Aveiro (CESAM) is part of the project consortium and has its headquarter in the city of Aveiro.

This animation also invites you to share your memories and cultural heritage on the PERICLES geoportal: https://mapyourheritage.eu/. Register and upload your memories, stories, pictures, sound and videos. Find the instructions here.

Discover the maritime cultural heritage of the Aveiro region and its traditional"palheiros"!

"Next to the Ria de Aveiro shore are the colourful ‘palheiros’ of Costa Nova, which once served as a shelter for fishermen or as warehouses for salting or drying fish and today are major tourist attractions. During low tide, fishermen collect clams and cockles in the lagoon. At high tide, they fish cuttlefish, lamprey, sole, shad, and eels, delights of the local gastronomy."
