Bringing the Ocean to Society

I live by the Sea Youth Photo and Film Contest 2021
We want young people from all over the world to share with us their perception about the seas and coasts where they live!

Following the great success of the previous editions of the I Live By The Sea International Youth Contest, EurOcean is once again proud to support Today We Have and our Member IOPAN in the launch of the contest’s 2021 edition.

Children and teenagers from all over the world are invited to submit a story of “their sea” using any type of visual arts. We also invite parents, teachers and educators to publicise the contest around their families, friends and colleagues. The deadline is 31 March 2021.

Participants should also submit a short text (in English) describing the story behind their photographs and films. In the films we accept any form of artistic expression, from a documentary, to feature, or theatre play, through pantomime, dance or a song. Be creative!

We all live by the sea. No matter how far from the coast our home is. Whether it is by the beach or up in the mountains, we all have a great impact on it and we are all impacted by it. It is up to us whether we create a positive relationship with the sea or have an adverse impact on it. We believe that educating people about the importance and the beauty of marine environments is the key for a brighter sustainable future.

Therefore, the philosophy behind I Live by The Sea International Youth Contest is about raising awareness and the exchange of perspectives about the problems of our ocean. We strive to create an international society, whose members believe in the sense to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with special emphasis on marine issues. We hope that our contest unites the international youth to showcase their visions about the various matters affecting the marine environments, from social to natural issues.

We believe that the opportunity to connect young people from various parts of the world is a great value by itself. By taking part in the contest, they get a chance to be shortlisted for the exhibition that will run next summer in association with some of the most important ocean events taking place in planet. This is therefore an excellent opportunity for the younger generations to have a voice about the ocean. They can show to adults their present perception about the seas and coasts where they live. And what future do they want.

We want young people from all over the world to share this vision with us. We want all of them to feel that, little by little, we can change the world for better. The participation in this endeavour is already an “award”!

All works submitted will be reviewed by our panel of International Judges. Due to a variety of options for contestants the panel involves experts from a few fields of art and science.

This year, best photos, films and stories will be presented as part of the EU4Ocean Coalition celebrations of the World Oceans Day 2021.

Our Contest is an official partner of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development!
