VLIZ Awards for Marine Sciences: call 2020 launched
EurOcean Member continues to recognise merit within marine scientists. Deadline is 13 December 2020.

To recognize the work of meritorious marine researchers, encourage them to continue doing this in the future, and promote marine scientific research in Flanders: that is what the Flanders Marine Institute wants to achieve with its annual science awards. Until 13 December, candidates for the VLIZ North Sea Award, VLIZ Master Thesis Awards and VLIZ Professional Bachelor Thesis Award can register for the 2020 call. The award ceremony will take place on the VLIZ Marine Science Day 2021 on Wednesday 3 March 2021 in De Grote Post, Ostend, Belgium.

VLIZ Professional Bachelor Thesis Award 2020
Every year, the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) awards a prize to a professional bachelor thesis. Both fundamental and applied research in all branches of marine sciences is taken into consideration. The prize amounts to 500 EUR each and is reserved to young researchers who have successfully graduated as a professional bachelor from a Flemish college in the past two years (2019 or 2020), or to Flemish young researchers who, in the past two years (2019 or 2020) graduated from an international university of college. [More information] [Regulations] [Online registration]

VLIZ Master Thesis Awards 2020
Every year, VLIZ rewards two master theses. Both fundamental and applied research in all branches of marine sciences is taken into consideration. The prizes amount to 500 EUR each and are reserved to young researchers who graduated from a Flemish university in the past two years (2019 or 2020), or to Flemish young researchers who, in the past two years (2019 or 2020) graduated from an international university of college. [More information] [Regulations] [Online registration]

The VLIZ North Sea Award 2020

VLIZ annually awards a scientific prize for promoting innovative fundamental or applied research into the structure and functioning of the North Sea. The prize is awarded to a researcher or research team active and resident in a country bordering the North Sea. The price is EUR 1 000 and is indivisible. The award is presented as a reward for a recent and original scientific work on the structure, functioning and/or sustainable management of the ecosystem of the North Sea, with special attention to the shallow coastal areas and estuaries of the Southern Bight and the Channel. The contribution has to be of postgraduate or postdoctoral level and refers to up to three years of postgraduate research since receiving the PhD. [More information] [Regulations] [Online registration]

Please bear in mind that an application can only be considered as submitted after receipt of your online participation form and all requested documents. An overview of the necessary digital and printed documents can be found in the regulations. The submission deadline is 13 December 2020.
