Bringing the Ocean to Society
3 Jun 2019
The biggest EMD ever and EurOcean was there!
In case you were not there, now you can check everything we did in this year's celebrations in Lisbon.

Europe’s largest ocean event took place in Lisbon, EurOcean’s hometown, on 16th and 17th May. This year’s European Maritime Day was a record-breaking one with 1500 registered participants.

EurOcean was there, evidently. In our stand, the participants had the chance to use for the first time our new largely enhanced Marine Research Infrastructures Database (RID) and Marine Knowledge Gate (KG). The new tools are more complete, interactive and useful to the marine community. We now invite all to try these two unique databases and tell us what you think about our two unparalleled tools.

Many participants visited the EurOcean stand and approached our Staff during the event in order to know more about what we and our Members do. Perhaps one of the best ways to start discovering or revisit all of that is through our institutional video. Have a look!

Others were curious about the benefits of joining our network. A detailed explanation is available here. Plenty of fruitful networking went on in the EMD and our team will continue to be available should you want additional details about our services, projects, membership, and future collaborations.

The number of young professionals in large marine events is growing and the EMD was no different. They were logically also interested in knowing about internship opportunities and job offers. We have a dedicated marine jobs section in our website where we regularly publicise opportunities to work in marine science and technology in Europe. Looking for a new job?

EurOcean was heavily involved in the EMD workshop Gaps, barriers, solutions and & innovation Blue circular economy which emerged from the Aqua-Lit project. Five of our Members are part of its consortium, which is working hard to find solutions for the marine litter produced by the aquaculture industry. Aqua-Lit is already planning a number of stakeholders’ events so stay tuned. EurOcean will keep you updated.

The spirit of EMD has no boundaries nor is constrained to a one-day event. EurOcean teamed-up with its Member IOPAN, Today We Have and various other partners to bring you the best photographs of the 2019 I LIVE BY THE SEA 2019 youth contest to the magnificent riverfront of Lisbon.

After its opening on 2nd May with the European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen, on the last day of the EMD celebrations, the exhibition was visited by the President of the Portuguese Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and DG MARE’s Director-General João Aguiar Machado. This inspiring exhibition will be waiting for your visit in Praça Europa until 8th June, the World Oceans Day.

EurOcean thanks all who visited our stand, met our Staff, joined the workshop and visited the exhibition. See you next year in Cork!
