EMSO to extend ocean observatories network to the Portuguese open ocean waters and seafloor.
The new node of the existing network will be located in the Gulf of Cadiz and will obtain data on earthquakes, climate change and marine ecosystems.

The Portugues project will be locally coordinated by IPMA (the sea and meteorology public office of Portugal) and will be part of a consortium of eight other similar projects around Europe. These include some of major areas of the European maritime space, namely the Artic, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. An extension to the Azores region is also being planned.
