Congrats to the Bags with Tags Team for winning the final competition!

This year´s edition of the Professor Mário Ruivo Prize came to an end!

The Prize was be awarded to a team of young people (11-16 years old) who design a novel research project, implement a community scheme, investigate a topical subject through the popular media, etc. that supports the Blue Society Principles.

All proposals were evaluated by the Jury during summer and these three teams were selected to advance to the final stage:

  • Team 1: Ireland: Protecting and sustaining marine life in Ireland
  • Team 2: Ireland: Bags with tags
  • Team 3: Malta: Marine public transport 

During EurOcean's Steering Committee meeting a winner was choosen and it was unveiled and the prizes awarded at the CommOcean 2016 event that took place in Bruges, Belgium December 6-7 2016.

Prof. Mário Ruivo is a Portuguese scientist and politician who was a pioneer for ocean protection and diverse environmental issues in his home country. Throughout his long career, he chaired a number of international organizations dealing with a wide range of marine and maritime affairs and he was one of founders of EurOcean in 2002. He currently holds the post of president for several Portuguese institutions involved in the promotion of ocean knowledge and sustainability. The EurOcean Foundation therefore honours and promotes his legacy by making the Professor Mário Ruivo Award.
