Bringing the Ocean to Society

Join us in Brussels on June 6th!

The focus of this month's newsletter is exclusively on the “Your Ocean, Your Future” event taking place on June 6th in Brussels. This will be EurOcean's biggest event of the year. Although registration has now closed, if you would like to attend send an email to ned.dwyer@eurocean.org.

We are honoured that this commemoration of Prof. Mário Ruivo has the High Patronage of his Excellency the President of Portugal and delighted that the Portuguese Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Dr. Manuel Heitor, will open the event.

Come along to find out who Prof. Mário Ruivo was and hear about his contribution and legacy to marine policy and science, from his partner, friends and professional colleagues. Moreover there is a strong focus on the future of our ocean. We will hear from Lennart de Nooijer from the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research about recent exciting discoveries in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean; from Lorenzo Minetti, whose company Quagga develops high-end fashion products from recycled plastic bottles and from Cyrill Gutsch who will join us from New York by a live connection to explain how Parley for the Oceans is taking innovative approaches to help protect our ocean. Furthermore you can find out from Mary Morrison, a member of the public from the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, why she transported a small boat she found on the shoreline near her house all the way from Scotland to Lisbon in the back of her car!

The conference is complemented by an exhibition and hands on activities, so be prepared to engage, interact, learn and have some fun! Check out the full agenda of events and send an email to ned.dwyer@eurocean.org if you would like to attend.

Our Children´s Art Contest has been a resounding success with more than 80 entries from around the world. We will try and display as many of these as possible in Brussels, so come along and check out how the next generation perceive our ocean and their future!
