Call for proposals: Blue skills development and funding opportunities in the maritime technology sector
The European Commission announced the 2018 Call for Proposals for the Erasmus+ programme with a EUR 2.7 billion budget.

That is an increase of over EUR 200 million compared to 2017!

Erasmus+ features several actions of relevance to Blue Economy sectors, such as strengthening cooperation between industry and education, and promoting adult learning and mobility of students, trainees, volunteers and trainers.

Erasmus+ takes into account the priorities set in the "New skills agenda for Europe" from June 2016. The agenda aims at ensuring the development of skills necessary for the jobs of today and tomorrow and at boosting employability, competitiveness and growth across the EU.

The maritime technology sector will implement one action in particular included in the agenda, namely the Blueprint for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills.

This industry-led initiative aims at delivering a clear strategic vision and an action plan on how to tackle skills gaps and deliver more systematic and impactful results in both the short and medium term. Identification of skills and funding opportunities to close the gap between education and the needs of the maritime technology industry is one of the expected outcomes of this initiative.

Organisations interested in bidding for funding in 2018 can start preparing their grant applications. The Erasmus+ Programme Guide, which provides detailed information on how to apply, is available here.

The EU's programme for mobility and transnational cooperation in education, training, youth and sport for the period 2014-2020, Erasmus+ offers opportunities for individuals as well as organisations, including universities, education and training providers, think-tanks, research institutes, and private businesses.

Actions including the Strategic PartnershipsKnowledge Alliances and Policy Reform projects provide unique opportunities for individuals and organisations to gain new perspectives in their studies, training or professional careers.
