New marine geoportal SNIMar launched
The Portuguese-Norwegian-Icelandic three year collaboration aggregated a massive catalog of marine databases.

The SNIMar project aim was to develop a geoportal to facilitate access to information about the Portuguese marine environment. The official launch of the SNIMar Geoportal took place on 19 April 2017, in Lisbon, Portugal and EurOcean was represented by Tiago Garcia.

SNIMar was funded by the EEA Grants and the Portuguese Government and dealt with the preparation of integrated geographic information for marine and coastal water management. Developed between June 2014 and April 2017, the project was promoted by the Portuguese Task Group for the Extension of the Continental Shelf (EMEPC), had the Norwegian Mapping Authority and the National Land Survey of Iceland as donors and 12 Portuguese governmental agencies and research institutions as partners.

The newly lauch geoportal aggregates marine-related information available for the portion of the Atlantic Ocean under Portuguese jurisdiction and is also connected to similar platforms of other European countries. An opens source tool, it is from now available to everyone so make sure you visit it!
